意外にも人気が。

YOKA CABINを作った時、空前のキャンプブームの真っ只中。あの幕も持ってるけど、この幕も買う。そんな熱狂が続く中、タープポールなどの部品が、手元でダブついているという噂を耳にしました。そこでYOKA CABINは「ポール無し」のモデルも作ったりしたのですが、そんな中、半分独立した製品として作ったのがこのポールです。

工場から届いたサンプルを分解して驚いたのですが、ひねって緩めて、伸ばして締める。そんな無段階の調節が、めちゃくちゃシンプルな部品で出来ているんです。シンプルなほど壊れにくい、というのが私のデザインの信条なので、とても共感しました。

でももう少し、形が工夫できるパーツもあるよな〜と思い、プラスチック部分の形状も変えることを視野に入れていたのですが、それには莫大な数量が必要だということで断念。最低限、本体をマットにすることで雰囲気を良くしよう、ということで出来上がったポールです。

YOKA POLEなんて偉そうにロゴを入れてはいますが、僕がやったのはその、色を黒にしてマットにしただけ。タープポールとテントポールを兼ねられるようになっていたりとかの、形状の工夫は実は最初からです^^;

それでも、このポールだけ売れるという需要が結構ありまして。いまでは完全に独立した商品として販売しています。

Quietly popular

When we made YOKA CABIN, we were in the middle of an unprecedented camping boom. People owned that shelter and bought this one too. As that fever rolled on, we kept hearing stories of tarp poles piling up unused at home. So we even made a "no-pole" version of YOKA CABIN — and along the way, we developed this pole as a semi-independent product.

When I took apart the sample that came back from the factory, I was struck by it: twist to loosen, extend, twist to lock. Stepless adjustment, achieved with extremely simple parts. The simpler, the harder to break — that's a tenet of my design philosophy, so I really resonated with it.

There were a few more places where the form could have been refined, and I had thought about reshaping the plastic parts — but it would have required massive minimum quantities, so I gave that up. At the very least, we'd matte-finish the body to lift the feel — and that's how this pole came together.

I gave it the lofty name YOKA POLE, but really all I did was paint it black and matte. The clever bits — like working as both a tarp pole and a tent pole — were there from the original design. ^^;

Even so, demand for the pole alone has been steady, so we now sell it as a fully independent product.

做 YOKA CABIN 之时，正值空前的露营热潮。这块也有那块也买。在这股热情持续中，听闻天幕立柱等配件在大家手上有不少富余。于是 YOKA CABIN 还做过"不含立柱"的款式——其间，我们以半独立产品的形式做出了这根立柱。

工厂送来样品后我把它拆开，颇为惊讶：扭松、拉长、再拧紧——这种无级调节，竟用极其简单的零件就实现了。"越简单越不易坏"是我的设计信条，这一点甚是合拍。

本想着塑料件部分也可再做形状上的优化，但开新模需巨量起订，遂作罢。至少把本体做成哑光，以提升质感——这便是这根立柱的诞生过程。

虽冠以 YOKA POLE 之名，其实我所做的不过是涂黑+哑光而已。可作天幕立柱亦可作帐篷立柱等形状上的巧思，其实自始就有。^^;

即便如此，仅这根立柱的需求也颇为稳定，如今已作为完全独立的商品销售。
